Class Schedule – old

Welcome to our schedule of classes. Start dates are listed for each level.  Classes meet once a week on the same day of the week at the same time each week for 6 consecutive weeks, unless otherwise stated. Enrollment is subject to availability as space is limited. If you are looking for a class that is not on this schedule please feel free to contact us.

“Levels” Puppy Class – Saturdays at 10:30am: This class has a convenient schedule; just start any Saturday at 10:30am. You will be enrolled for 6 sequential weeks. This class is for dogs up to 8 months of age. This class teaches manners, basic obedience cues, and has a special emphasis on socialization. Our instructor is also a certified AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Evaluator and will be glad to test your puppy for this additional certification at the end of your class series by request.

“Levels” Basic Class – Saturdays at 12:00pm: This class has a convenient schedule; just start any Saturday at noon. You will be enrolled for 6 sequential weeks. This class is for dogs over 8 months of age. This class teaches manners, basic obedience cues, and helps with troubleshooting for common behavior problems.

B.A. Level Canine Life and Social Skills (CLASS) -2/25/2012 at 3:00pm: Start on advanced training with this B.A. class. Work on teaching and appreciating real-life, practical skills, such as walking nicely on a leash, settling down, meeting strangers, table manners, attention, and coming when called, just to name a few. ***Please open your CLASS Handbook. Dogs who pass this level are eligible to attend upcoming M.A. level classes.

M.A. Level Canine Life and Social Skills (CLASS) – 3/3/2012 at 4:30pm & 4/14/2012 at 4:30pm: Continue advanced training with this M.A. class. This class is for dogs who have already achieved B.A. training. Dogs who pass this level are eligible to attend upcoming Ph.D. level classes.

Ph.D. Level Canine Life and Social Skills (CLASS) – 4/14/2012 at 3:00pm: Continue advanced training with this Ph.D. class. This class is for dogs who have already achieved B.A., and M.A. training.

“Snarky Dog Class Level 1” – 3/31/2012 at 6:00pm: To register, contact us directly at speakdog@charter.net or (509)531-1130. This class is for dogs who may bark, lunge and/or growl at other dogs due to fear or lack of proper socialization. This class is designed to help owners with their handling and management skills and help dogs to feel more comfortable in the presence of other dogs while teaching some basic obedience skills. There will be two instructors for this group. Approved dogs only, space limited, special equipment necessary. This class is a 4 week series and is priced at $225.

Adopted Dogs & Puppies Mini-Series (3 week session): Beginning 4/5/2012 at 3:30pm.
This class will meet once weekly for an hour session for 3 concurrent weeks (4/5, 4/12, 4/19). Cost is $75 to enroll. Class will be held in the gated fenced outdoor area at local shelter partners. Minimum 3 dogs enrolled to hold the classes, maximum 10 dogs enrolled in one series. The series will include:

  • The first two classes are for you and your dog. In these classes the Speak Dog trainer will be teaching new behaviors such as sit, down, and other basic manners as well as offering recommendations on effective communication between people and their dogs.
  • The final class is a group lecture for people only.  The discussion will focus on  common behavior issues and helpful ways to deal with them as well as what to expect after adopting a dog including how to help the transition go smoothly (introducing new dogs to the household, possibly touching on introducing to other pets, children, etc.).

Therapy Dog – Spring 2012: This class instructs the concepts which are necessary and helpful to pass a therapy dog certification as well as increasing understanding of the dog and handler therapy dog team. Our instructor is a certified therapy dog evaluator and will be glad to evaluate your dog at the end of the series. This class is for dogs who already have their C.G.C. This class will meet at the Speak Dog Campus (and will possibly have field trips to therapy locations) and you will need to register directly through Speak Dog.

Intro. to Agility – Spring 2012: This class introduces the dog sport of Agility and also helps those who are above entry level to refine their skills. This class is for dogs who already know their basics.

Rally-O – Spring 2012: This class introduces the dog sport of Rally Obedience in both AKC and APDT formats and also helps those who are above entry level to refine their skills. This class is for dogs who already know their basics.

AKC Canine Good Citizen – Spring 2012: This class is designed to prepare dog and owner teams for the AKC C.G.C. evaluation. Krystal is a certified AKC C.G.C. Evaluator and will be glad to evaluate your dog at the end of the series. This class is for dogs who already know their basics. ***Please open your CGC Handbook. K9 Nose Work – Spring 2012: Your dog already knows how to use its nose, the class helps handlers understand what they are seeing in their dog. This class is fun for dogs of all ages, breeds, and experience levels and is not only for ‘professional’ dogs.
